Bonnie Foley-Wong, CEO Pique Ventures, Receives British Columbia Entrepreneur Promotion Award of 2019 by Startup Canada
Vancouver, BC – May 14, 2019 – Bonnie Foley-Wong received the Startup Canada Entrepreneur Promotion Award in Vancouver, BC presented by Intuit Quickbooks. This award recognizes Bonnie’s contribution to advancing Canadian entrepreneurship through her leadership, innovation and impact at Pique Ventures.
Upon receiving the award at the sold-out BC regional event, Bonnie acknowledged that the award celebrates not only financial success but different measures of success such as how Pique portfolio company Careteam helps take care of people or how FoodMesh helps take care of the planet.
Pique Ventures is an impact venture capital firm, founded in 2012, and has a triple bottom line approach to investing in and supporting startups. Pique launched its first fund, Pique Fund, in 2014, enabling 41 pioneering investors to invest in seven women-founded startups in BC. Pique prides itself on the diversity within its investor community and portfolio companies. 75% of Pique Fund’s capital comes from women and a third of its investors identify as people of colour. Around 40% of the management teams and of the total workforce employed by Pique portfolio companies are represented by women and 26% by people of colour. Pique is currently working on a second impact venture fund to continue to support a diverse community of entrepreneurs building companies that care, connect, and protect.

“Congratulations to the 2019 winners of the Startup Canada Awards,” said Victoria Lennox, Co-Founder and President of Startup Canada. “Each and every one of these outstanding recipients have an immense impact on the future of Canada and they all represent the greatness and diversity of our nation’s entrepreneurship community. We are proud to celebrate excellence and enduring impact across Canada by recognizing the entrepreneurs, innovators and support ecosystem making it happen.”
“To me, this award represents more women and underrepresented and underestimated people belonging in the venture community and being able to become investors and entrepreneurs,” said Bonnie. “I’m excited to see impact investing recognized and celebrated – it is the way of the future!”
Regional winners will now be evaluated by the National Adjudication Committee; comprised of some of Canada’s leading entrepreneurship and industry experts. The national winners will be announced and celebrated at the Startup Canada Awards Grand Finale in Toronto in October, 2019.
